Printable Paper

http://www.printablepaper.net/
If you need a page of specially lined paper as opposed to a package, this is the link for you. There's a wide range ruled papers than can be printed off for free. Anything that eliminates the disadvantages of living without easy access to city shopping it all good to me. I'm not about to make a special trip to the nearest city to purchase paper so without this site, I would have been stuck working with pen and ruler to create whatever I needed.

Ten Videos About How to View the World

http://www.lifehack.org/articles/miscellaneous/the-ten-videos-to-change-how-you-view-the-world.html
At the moment, I'm in the process of watching these videos. Knowing that I'll be commenting on them later, I've posted the link to the blog rather than adding it to favourites. I think favourites should be links used on a continual basis. In my case, the most often looked at sites are on google reader, the sites needed for reference or do get work done are on favourites and then there are google notebooks for when I want to surf based on a theme. So if I feel like spending some time looking at art, I have a notebook exclusively devoted to art links.

Barbra Streisand

Have to admit that I like Barbra Streisand - more so all the time. I suppose it takes life experience to realize how it feels when the parent has died and there's so much more you'd like to communicate. To be honest, I'm pretty sure that my Scottish Presbyterian father never kissed any of his children or had anything to do with bedtime rituals but that has its own virtue.

If they could only delete the wine/sleeping pills combination which is too stupid for words, this scene from The Way We Were is very powerful. If I were conducting premarital classes, I would show it to young people so they'd realize how heartbreaking it is when two good people with different value systems reach the point where the differences have to be faced

And of course, the older we get and the more we consider the projected statistics on Alzheimer's and Baby Boomers, the more signficant the lyrics to Memories

Brain Cake

Yesterday I was customizing igoogle and included a "how to" section. Today's lesson is "How to make an Anatomically Correct Brain Cake". http://www.wikihow.com/Make-an-Anatomically-Correct-Brain-Cake It makes me want to rush out and buy a cake pan but I have a scrip order in for Canadian Tire and Home Hardware so I'll be patient and let the parish get its percentage. Jan Ferris' signature line when the powers that be said they'd like to visit the Diocese of Yukon was "Come over and I'll bake you a cake." It was pretty effective because to this day I can't see any cake without thinking of Jan. My soon-to-be daughter-in-law decorates cakes so the family ones are her speciality. Maybe I'll make a statement with the brain - put one on my stationery, my calling cards, bring one to pot luck suppers. It's hard to think of anything more fascinating to baby boomers. On igoogle, I've added word of the day, foreign words of the hour, brain puzzles, brain games, wikki encyclopedia, a dictionary, etc. Unfortunately it makes it difficult to focus on productivity.

Human Rights Legislation

My daugher emailed a copy of her independent study of the history of Human Rights legislation in Canada. Although independent studies were available when I was in University, I don't think I ever actually knew anyone who did one. I'm still unclear about the requirements for an independent study as the prof said hers looked more like a dissertation to him. Anyway, I'm up-to-date on Human Rights and I'm off exploring what the web has to say about independent studies.

Parenting Differences

I always liked parenting from the second floor of the house. Knowing I was never going to be a kid amongst the kids, I made 4 of them so they could play with each other. There was also the issue of being an older mother and trusting that they'd be there for each other way longer than I would be around. Add a bunch a friends, a cat, a dog and I was a bit like Waldo. If you searched you could find me but most of the time Waldo being missing isn't noticed. Tonight John came home and he, Peter, the dog and the cat are chilling out downstairs. On Monday, David is coming home for a few days. The books all talk about quality time. There are a lot of working mothers who take their sons to the arena and then to Tim Horton's for breakfast as the very top priority of the day. I've got to take my hat off to them. One season of football freezing my buns off and thinking the most wonderful thing in the universe would be a hot cup of anything to warm up my fingers arounded, ended my less than stellar career as a sports fan. All of the other mothers seemed to know which bleacher went with which team and what direction the kids should be heading in and when to yell at them and when to stand up and cheer. It must be really annoying to the good moms that those of us who parented from the second floor have kids that seek us out.

Re-thinking Blog

I'm taking a small break to rethink this blog. I've been shooting from the hip. When I started, I just wanted a way for old friends to find me. There's certainly enough information already posted for that. I have some concerns about the lack of focus in the blog and I need to understand more about not only the technical aspects of blogging but also about the communication rules. If I'm going to put words out into cyberspace, perhaps I should first figure out whether or not I have anything to say.
